In the Champions League league phase every one of the 36 clubs plays in all eight matchdays, so rotation is never about finding a blank round — it happens inside the matchday. A matchday is played across two or three calendar days, and UEFA lets you substitute any player who has not yet played, so a pair whose clubs play on different days lets you see the first keeper's result before committing to the round.

How rotation works in the league phase
Two keepers playing on the same day cannot be rotated at all, whatever their kick-off times: once one of them has played you may no longer substitute him out, so the pair is locked. Different days are the whole requirement.
