Tattico Serie A Matchday 9: captain picks and best buys

Tattico Serie A Matchday 9 preview: best buys, captain picks and differentials

Matchday 9 of Tattico Fantasy Serie A is a midweek round, with the deadline on Tuesday 27 October at 18:30 and the weekend's Matchday 10 straight after it. That makes it a planning round more than a one-week punt. Three matchdays land inside twelve days before a two-week gap ahead of Matchday 12, so the transfer you make now has to carry you through Matchday 11. The programs below are the reason to move, and this round is just when you make the move.

The headline: Inter have the best three-matchday attacking run in the game and Roma the best defensive one. Atalanta are the side to plan around: their Matchday 9 trip is the weak link in an otherwise strong run. Every number here comes from our model's current projections. Check the full Tattico player picks for every player's points.

The programs: whose next three Matchdays are worth owning

All 20 clubs play once in each of Matchdays 9, 10 and 11, so there are no blanks to plan around and the three-matchday totals compare like for like. Inter's [A]VEN → [A]MIL → [H]COM tops the game at 6.21 expected goals across the three. The Milan derby in Matchday 10 is the fixture to plan around, not one to avoid: two fixtures this good either side of it make up for it. Roma's [H]CGL → [A]UDI → [H]SAS is the best defensive run at 1.25 expected clean sheets, and Matchday 9 is its high point, with a 50% clean sheet chance at home to Cagliari. No other defence has a better number this round.

Atalanta's [A]FIO → [H]PAR → [A]MON is a program that turns. The Fiorentina away game gives them only a 31% win probability, but the next two push their three-matchday total to 5.15 expected goals and 1.10 expected clean sheets, third-best in both columns. Juventus ([A]GEN → [H]NAP → [A]FIO) are the other defence worth owning at 1.21 expected clean sheets. Their attack ranks only seventh at 4.39 expected goals.

At the other end, Parma (2.77 expected goals) and Monza (2.85) have the weakest three-matchday attacks. Venezia, Lecce and Cagliari are not far behind. The full fixture list with dates is on the Tattico schedule, and the odds behind these numbers are on the market probabilities page. For how we turn odds into a fixture rating, see our fixture difficulty guide.

Matchday 9 best buys: goalkeepers

Pierluigi Gollini (4.6m, ROM) is the pick of the position, and a cheap one. He is in goal while Mile Svilar is out (expected back 6 November), and his program [H]CGL → [A]UDI → [H]SAS is the best clean sheet run in the game. He projects 5.2 points this round, top among keepers, and runs 5.2 → 4.2 → 3.7 for 13.1 over three matchdays. Treat him as a two-matchday buy. Once Svilar's return date arrives around Matchday 11, Gollini's minutes are no longer safe, so plan to move him on then.

Guglielmo Vicario (6.1m, JUV) is the premium hold. His [A]GEN → [H]NAP → [A]FIO gives 4.7 → 4.3 → 4.2. That is the flattest high line among keepers and the best three-matchday total at 13.2, and his six-matchday weighted score of 16.1 also leads the position. If you want a keeper you can set and forget, he is the one.

Marco Carnesecchi (5.5m, ATA) is a buy for next round, not this one. His Matchday 9 projection is only 3.3 at Fiorentina, then 3.3 → 5.0 → 4.5 as [H]PAR and [A]MON arrive. That is 12.8 over the three, third in the position. With one free transfer a week, bringing him in before Matchday 10 catches the good part of the run without paying for the weak week.

Matchday 9 best buys: defenders

Federico Dimarco (7.0m, INT) is the best player in the game this round at 6.4 points, and he holds up beyond it: 6.4 → 4.7 → 4.6 across [A]VEN → [A]MIL → [H]COM. That is 15.7 over three, the best of any defender, with a weighted score of 18.1. He brings attacking returns as well as Inter's clean sheet chances, with 0.24 expected goals and 0.33 expected assists against Venezia. He is expensive for a defender, but he also tops the captain table in Matchday 11 (see below). That double use is why he is worth the money.

Gleison Bremer (6.9m, JUV) and Pierre Kalulu (6.1m, JUV) are the durable pair behind him. Juventus's [A]GEN → [H]NAP → [A]FIO gives Bremer 5.3 → 4.6 → 4.5 (14.4) and Kalulu 5.1 → 4.5 → 4.4 (14.0), and both weighted scores are above 17. That is the best of any non-Inter defender. Pair either one with Vicario if you want a Juventus clean sheet stack.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo (5.6m, NAP) is the value premium: 5.0 → 3.8 → 4.5 across [A]MON → [A]JUV → [H]LAZ for 13.3, with a weighted 16.2 that only Dimarco and the Juventus pair beat. The Juventus away game is his one soft week. For Roma cover alongside Gollini, Mario Hermoso (5.7m, ROM) runs 5.1 → 4.0 → 4.1 (13.2) and Leonardo Balerdi (5.5m, ROM) 5.0 → 3.9 → 3.9 (12.8). Both take their best week now, in the 50% clean sheet home game.

Yann Bisseck (6.0m, INT) is the cheaper way into the Inter defence at 5.4 this round. But his line fades faster than Dimarco's (5.4 → 4.0 → 3.7, 13.1), so if you are buying one Inter defender and keeping him, buy Dimarco.

Budget defenders

Jhon Lucumi (4.5m, JUV) is the budget defender of the round. He projects 4.6 → 4.1 → 3.8 for 12.5 over three matchdays. That is more than Mario Gila or Alessandro Bastoni (12.1 each) at well under their price, on the same Juventus program as Bremer. Kaiki (4.1m, COM) is one of the cheapest defenders in the pool worth starting. He runs 4.6 → 4.9 across [A]TOR → [H]VEN, then drops to 2.7 at Inter, so treat him as a two-matchday pick and move him on before Matchday 11.

Looking one round ahead, Thomas Kristensen (4.7m, ATA) projects 5.1 in Matchday 10 at home to Parma, joint top of that round. Like Carnesecchi he is a buy from next round: his Matchday 9 number is only 3.4. Bologna have a similar shape: [A]MIL first, then [H]MON. Their defenders (Juan Miranda and Nadir Zortea) sit at the top of the Matchday 10 table, but they are not a Matchday 9 buy.

Matchday 9 best buys: midfielders

Matias Soulé (8.0m, ROM) is the best three-matchday midfielder in the game: 4.8 → 3.7 → 3.8 across [H]CGL → [A]UDI → [H]SAS for 12.3, weighted 14.0. Christian Pulisic (9.0m, MIL) matches his 4.8 this round and is Milan's penalty taker, but [H]BOL → [H]INT → [A]GEN drops him to 3.4 and 3.4 (11.6). On this round alone they are level. If you are buying one and keeping him, buy Soulé, who also costs a million less.

Charles De Ketelaere (7.3m, ATA) is where the round ranking and the three-matchday ranking disagree most. He is only 3.3 at Fiorentina, but [H]PAR and [A]MON lift him to 4.6 and 3.9. That gives 11.8, second among midfielders over the three. Like the other Atalanta picks, the program starts in Matchday 10, so bring him in next round unless you have a spare transfer now. Éderson (4.5m, ATA) is the budget way into that run: 3.0 → 4.0 → 3.5 for 10.5 at just 4.5m, the best three-matchday value of any midfielder.

Piotr Zielinski (6.9m, INT) is the value way into Inter's attack: 4.5 → 3.5 → 3.1 (11.1) on the best attacking program in the game, with 0.28 expected goals at Venezia. Lucas Da Cunha (6.7m, COM) runs 4.0 → 4.2 → 2.8 (11.0) across [A]TOR → [H]VEN → [A]INT. He is Como's penalty taker, and his Matchday 10 is actually better than his Matchday 9.

Budget midfielders and hidden gems

Giacomo Calo (5.0m, FRC) is the standout cheap midfielder. He projects 4.6 this round, third among all midfielders behind two players who cost 8.0m and 9.0m. He is Frosinone's penalty taker and runs 4.6 → 3.6 → 3.1 across [H]LEC → [H]TOR → [A]CGL (11.3). That is the fifth-best midfield total over three matchdays, from the 5.0m bracket. Teammate Giorgi Kvernadze (5.1m) runs a similar 4.3 → 3.4 → 3.0 if you want a second Frosinone attacker.

Two more differentials worth a look. Federico Bernardeschi (6.0m, BOL) is Bologna's penalty taker and runs 3.1 → 4.5 → 3.8 across [A]MIL → [H]MON → [A]PAR (11.4), another buy that gets better after this round. Mattia Zaccagni (5.7m, LAZ) projects 3.8 → 3.9 → 2.8 across [A]SAS → [H]CGL → [A]NAP. He is Lazio's penalty taker and worth 10.5 over the window at a mid price.

Matchday 9 best buys: forwards

Marcus Thuram (10.7m, INT) is the forward to own while Lautaro Martinez is out. He projects 5.1 this round, top of the position, with 0.50 expected goals at Venezia, then 3.6 and 3.3 for 12.0 over the three, also top. The Milan away game is his weakest week, and Como at home brings him back up. Donyell Malen (10.4m, ROM) is the alternative at 4.5 → 3.2 → 3.7 (11.4). He leads the forwards with 0.60 expected goals in Matchday 9 and takes Roma's penalties, though his minutes are less secure than Thuram's.

Randal Kolo Muani (7.2m, JUV) is the best value of the established forwards. He is Juventus's penalty taker, projects 82 minutes, and runs 4.0 → 3.3 → 3.2 for 10.5 across [A]GEN → [H]NAP → [A]FIO. That is third among forwards over the window at more than 3m less than Thuram or Malen. Antonio Raimondo (5.8m, FRC) is the mid-price option on Frosinone's run: 3.8 → 2.9 → 2.5 with 0.37 expected goals this round. Most of his value comes now, so treat him as a short hold.

Cheap enablers are thin up front. Akor Adams (4.2m, VEN) is the pick of them: 2.8 → 2.3 → 3.0 across [H]INT → [A]COM → [H]UDI and a projected 80 minutes. That is enough to fill a bench spot and fund a premium elsewhere, not a starter. Check the Tattico predicted lineups before the deadline for the cheap forwards, where minutes decide everything.

Matchday 9 captain picks

The captain scores double in Tattico, so this is the biggest single call of the round. Here are the top projections for Matchday 9:

PlayerTeamPriceMatchday 9 fixtureProjected pointsProgram (MD9-11)
Federico DimarcoINT7.0m[A]VEN6.46.4 → 4.7 → 4.6
Yann BisseckINT6.0m[A]VEN5.45.4 → 4.0 → 3.7

Pierluigi GolliniROM4.6m[H]CGL5.25.2 → 4.2 → 3.7
Marcus ThuramINT10.7m[A]VEN5.15.1 → 3.6 → 3.3

Captain #1: Federico Dimarco (7.0m, INT). At 6.4 he projects a full point clear of anyone else in the game, and he has attacking returns on top of Inter's 36% clean sheet chance at Venezia. #2: Marcus Thuram (10.7m, INT) is the attacking alternative from the same fixture. His projection is lower (5.1), but a goal-scoring forward has the higher ceiling if you want variety. #3: Gleison Bremer (6.9m, JUV) at 5.3 is the pick if you do not own an Inter player.

Think about the captaincy beyond this round. In Matchday 10 the top projections move to Atalanta and Bologna players (Kristensen and Carnesecchi at 5.1 and 5.0, Miranda at 5.1), with Dimarco close behind at 4.7. In Matchday 11 Dimarco is back on top at 4.6, level with Torino's Lucas Perri. One player who captains well in two of the next three rounds is a strong reason to own him. More on how we rank captains is in our captain-picking guide.

Who to sell before Matchday 9

Lautaro Martinez (11.5m, INT) is the clearest sell, and this is the round to do it. He is out with an expected return of 17 November, so he projects zero in Matchdays 9, 10 and 11. Then comes the two-week gap before Matchday 12. Keeping him means three straight empty matchdays from the most expensive player in the game. Selling him now turns that money into Thuram on the same Inter program, or into Dimarco plus an upgrade elsewhere.

Kenan Yildiz (6.4m, JUV) goes for the same reason, only more so. His expected return is 6 December, which means zero projected points until Matchday 14. There is no point waiting a round. Chico Conceicao (7.3m, JUV) is in a similar spot, with an expected return of 17 November and nothing projected until Matchday 12. Paulo Dybala and Moise Kean are a different case: both are expected back on 6 November, around Matchday 11, so owners can hold them rather than pay a transfer.

Scott McTominay (8.4m, NAP) is a sell, but not yet. [A]MON is a perfectly decent fixture and his 3.9 this round is respectable for a Napoli midfielder. The problem is behind it: [A]JUV and [H]LAZ drop him to 2.4 and 2.7, so his three-matchday total of 9.0 is well below Soulé's 12.3 or Calo's 11.3. With one free transfer a week, you can wait a round on this one. Play him at Monza and move him on before Matchday 10, when Atalanta's run is the obvious place for the money to go.

Matchday 9 transfer summary

For most squads the order of moves is: sell the injured (Lautaro Martinez, Yildiz) now, and get onto the Inter and Roma programs this round with Dimarco, Thuram, Soulé or Gollini. Save next week's transfer for the Atalanta run (Carnesecchi, Kristensen, De Ketelaere or Éderson), which starts in Matchday 10. The Tactical Overhaul chip is the alternative if you want to make all of those moves in one go.
