RSL Fantasy Gameweek 8: captain picks and best buys
RSL Fantasy Gameweek 8 preview: best buys, captain picks and differentials
RSL Fantasy returns after the international break with a full nine-match Gameweek 8, and the model's numbers are unusually lopsided. Every one of the 18 Saudi Pro League clubs has a fixture, so there are no blanks to plan around — the decisions this week are about which of the big assets you back, and which of the heavily-owned names you can afford to move on. Three clubs project above 55% win probability; two project below 12%. Gameweek 8 kicks off on Thursday 9 October and runs through to Saturday evening.
The obvious part is easy: Al Nassr and Al Hilal have the two best fixtures and the two best attacks. That is not where leagues are won. The differentiator is the six or seven squad slots after the premiums, and this week the value sits in Al Qadasiya's back line and in a handful of sub-6.0m midfielders almost nobody owns. All numbers below are the model's current projections — you can cross-check every one of them on the RSL Fantasy player picks page.
Gameweek 8 fixture overview
Al Nassr FC [H]Al Diriyah is the standout on every axis: 84.5% win probability, 3.07 expected goals and a 52.5% clean sheet chance — the only fixture in the round where a defence is odds-on to keep one. Al Diriyah project 0.65 expected goals, the lowest figure of the Gameweek.
Al Hilal - Al Ittihad is the headline match and the more important one for planning. Al Hilal project 71.9% to win with 2.61 expected goals and a 37.8% clean sheet chance, and their programme then improves: [A]Al Riyadh at 72.9% in Gameweek 9 and [H]Al Hazem at 80.8% in Gameweek 10. That is the best three-week run in the game, and it is the strongest argument for loading up on Al Hilal rather than Al Nassr, whose Gameweek 9 trip to Al Ahli drops them to 39.2%.
Al Ahli travel to Al Fateh FC at 55.8% with a 33.7% clean sheet chance, and Al Qadasiya go to Al Kholood at 55.5% with 2.04 expected goals before hosting Abha (77.3%) in Gameweek 9. The middle of the round is genuinely flat — Al-Fayha (44.7%), Neom SC (41.9%), Al-Faisaly (41.5%), Al Shabab (40.3%) and Al-Ettifaq (38.6%) are all bunched, so fixture-picking below the top four is close to a coin flip.
| Team | Fixture | Win% | Expected goals | Clean sheet% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Al Nassr FC | [H]Al Diriyah | 84.5% | 3.07 | 52.5% |
| Al Hilal | [H]Al Ittihad | 71.9% | 2.61 | 37.8% |
| Al Ahli | [A]Al Fateh FC | 55.8% | 1.91 | 33.7% |
| Al Qadasiya | [A]Al Kholood | 55.5% | 2.04 | 29.6% |
| Al-Fayha | [H]Al Riyadh | 44.7% | 1.58 | 29.3% |
| Al Ittihad | [A]Al Hilal | 11.2% | 0.97 | 7.3% |
| Al Diriyah | [A]Al Nassr FC | 4.5% | 0.65 | 4.6% |

Best goalkeepers for Gameweek 8
Bento Krepski (5.5m, Al Nassr FC) is the top-projected goalkeeper in the game this week at 5.5 projected points, on the back of that 51.9% clean sheet probability against Al Diriyah. At 7.8% ownership he is also a differential — most managers who want Al Nassr exposure have taken the attackers instead. He is the pick.
Yassine Bounou (5.5m, Al Hilal) is the alternative at 5.0 projected points and a 37.4% clean sheet chance, and he is the better hold if you are building around Al Hilal's three-week run rather than one fixture. He is owned by 31.8% of managers, so he protects rank rather than winning it.
Hidden gem: Orlando Mosquera (5.0m, Al-Fayha) at 4.6 projected points and 1.6% ownership. Al-Fayha host Al Riyadh with a 29.3% clean sheet chance, the fifth-best defensive fixture of the round, at a fraction of the price of the two names above. If you want to go cheaper still, Turki Ba Al Jawsh (4.1m, Al-Ettifaq) posts 4.3 projected points — 1.05 points per million, the best rate of any goalkeeper in Gameweek 8.
Best defenders for Gameweek 8
This is the position where the Gameweek is decided, and the model is emphatic about where the value is.
Gaston Álvarez (5.0m, Al Qadasiya) — 5.6 projected points, joint-highest of any defender this week, at 1.12 points per million and only 6.5% ownership. He carries 0.235 projected clean sheet credit plus a small attacking share, and Al Qadasiya's next two fixtures ([A]Al Kholood, then [H]Abha at 77.3%) are both green. He is the best single value pick in the Gameweek at any position.
Malang Sarr (5.1m, Neom SC) — 5.5 projected points, 1.08 points per million, 11.3% owned, 85 projected minutes and a 0.95 starter factor. Neom SC are only 41.9% at Al Hazem, so this is a minutes-and-price pick rather than a fixture pick, but the rate is elite for the money.
Kalidou Koulibaly (5.0m, Al Hilal) — 5.1 projected points and a 0.292 projected clean sheet share, at 19.0% ownership. If you believe the Al Hilal three-round run, he is the cheapest way to buy into it, and pairing him with Bounou doubles up on the same clean sheet.
The template options are Mohammed Abu Al Shamat (6.7m, Al Qadasiya) at 5.6 and Nacho Fernandez (5.6m, Al Qadasiya) at 5.4 — both are owned by more than 41% of managers, both are fine holds, and neither gains you anything on your rivals. Note the three-per-club cap: Álvarez, Abu Al Shamat and Fernandez fill an Al Qadasiya block on their own.
Budget picks: Seydouba Cisse (4.5m, Al Kholood) at 4.9 projected points, 1.09 points per million and 0.5% ownership is the cheapest genuinely good defender in the game right now, and his trajectory holds up — 4.9 → 5.5 → 5.7 over the next three Gameweeks. Andrei Girotto (4.5m, Al-Faisaly) gives you 4.6 projected points with a 0.217 clean sheet share at Abha, and Jurien Gaari (4.4m, Abha) is 4.4 at 0.3% ownership.
Best midfielders for Gameweek 8
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (9.6m, Al Hilal) is the premium midfielder to own. He projects 7.0 points this week, and crucially 6.8 and 7.4 in the two Gameweeks after — his six-round decay-weighted score of 24.68 is the second-highest in the game behind only Ollie Watkins. At 14.5% ownership and 0.73 points per million he is both better value and less owned than the midfielder above him in price.
Julian Quinones (11.9m, Al Qadasiya) tops the position at 7.3 projected points and goes higher still in Gameweek 9 (8.4, the highest single-round projection in the game next week). At 36.5% ownership he is close to template, and at 0.61 points per million he is the least efficient of the premium midfielders — but the raw ceiling is real.
Sadio Mané (9.1m, Al Nassr FC) is the smarter Al Nassr midfield route: 6.9 projected points, identical to Joao Félix (10.5m), but 1.4m cheaper, 84 projected minutes against Félix's 70, and a far healthier 0.95 starter factor versus 0.76. Félix carries real rotation risk this week; Mané does not. If Félix is confirmed to start, the gap closes — check before the deadline.
Hidden gems: Musab Al-Juwayr (6.9m, Al Qadasiya) at 5.8 projected points and 5.1% ownership, and Fashion Sakala (6.9m, Al-Fayha) also at 5.8 with a 0.92 penalty share — the highest penalty involvement of any sub-7.0m midfielder in the round. Both return 0.84 points per million.
Budget picks: Aschraf El Mahdioui (5.4m, Al-Taawoun) is the standout at 5.2 projected points, 0.96 points per million, 85 projected minutes and just 2.4% ownership. John Buckley (5.5m, Al Kholood) gives 5.0 at 1.2% ownership, and Teddy Okou (5.5m, Al Riyadh) is 4.7 with a 0.60 penalty share — a cheap route to spot-kick upside.
Best forwards for Gameweek 8
Ollie Watkins (10.0m, Al Hilal) is the highest-projected player in RSL Fantasy for Gameweek 8 at 8.3 points, built on 0.70 projected goals and 0.16 projected assists across 85 minutes. He is also the best medium-term asset in the game: 8.3 → 8.3 → 8.4 over the next three rounds, and a decay-weighted six-round score of 27.47, the highest of any player. At 14.4% ownership he is still a differential. If you make one move this week, make it this one.
Cristiano Ronaldo (12.6m, Al Nassr FC) projects 7.7 points against the weakest projected defence in the round, with 0.69 projected goals and an 0.89 penalty share. The caveat is what comes next: Al Nassr's Gameweek 9 trip to Al Ahli drops his projection to 4.6, so this is a one-week spike rather than a three-week investment.
Ivan Toney (12.1m, Al Ahli) is the template forward at 53.5% ownership and 7.4 projected points, with a 0.90 penalty share. His fixtures are the most even of the three premiums — 7.4, 5.6 and 6.6 across the next three — so he is the safest hold, but owning him differentiates you from nobody.
Hidden gem: Roger Martinez (8.9m, Al Shabab) at 5.8 projected points and 3.1% ownership is the biggest ownership-to-output gap among forwards this week. Al Shabab only project 40.3% at home to Al-Taawoun, so this is a genuine differential punt rather than a safe pick — but it is the fourth-highest forward projection in the game.
Value picks: Alexandre Lacazette (7.2m, Neom SC) at 5.7 projected points and 0.79 points per million is the best mid-priced forward, and Alexandre Mendy (5.4m, Al-Faisaly) is the budget answer at 4.8 projected points, 0.89 points per million and an 0.88 penalty share.
Captain picks for Gameweek 8
The captain scores double in RSL Fantasy, so this is the biggest single decision of the week.
1. Ollie Watkins (10.0m, Al Hilal) — 8.3 projected points, the highest in the game, against an Al Ittihad side projected for 0.97 expected goals and an 11.2% win chance. He has the highest floor and the highest ceiling of the candidates, and he is the only one whose projection does not dip in Gameweek 9. Captain him.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo (12.6m, Al Nassr FC) — 7.7 projected points in the best fixture of the round by win probability and expected goals, plus the penalty share. If you already own him and not Watkins, there is no need to force a transfer purely to move the armband.
3. Ivan Toney (12.1m, Al Ahli) — 7.4 projected points at Al Fateh FC, who project just 1.09 expected goals. The safe, high-ownership armband.
Julian Quinones (11.9m, Al Qadasiya) at 7.3 is the fourth option, and he is the one to earmark for next week — he leads the entire game on projected points for Gameweek 9 at 8.4. Captaincy is a plan, not a single pick: when you are choosing between premiums to buy now, weigh which of them you would also want the armband on in Gameweek 9 and 10. On that test Watkins wins comfortably, projecting 8.3 and 8.4 in those rounds. You can compare the full ranked list any time on the player picks page, and the optimal teams solver will build the highest-projecting legal squad around whichever captain you choose.
Who to sell before Gameweek 8
The sell list this week is dominated by Al Ittihad, and the reason is the fixture: they travel to Al Hilal with an 11.2% win probability, 0.97 expected goals and a 7.3% clean sheet chance.
George Ilenikhena (5.0m, Al Ittihad) — 2.4 projected points at 31.7% ownership. That is the lowest projection of any player in the game owned by more than 20% of managers, and it is compounded by 49 projected minutes. He is the clearest sell in RSL Fantasy this week.
Steven Bergwijn (8.2m, Al Ittihad) — 2.7 projected points, 56 projected minutes, 21.4% owned. At that price the opportunity cost is enormous: the same money buys Milinkovic-Savic's 7.0 with change left over.
Moussa Dembélé (7.0m, Al-Ettifaq) — 3.7 projected points at 27.0% ownership, and the underlying reason is minutes rather than fixture: a 0.55 starter factor and 57 projected minutes. That is not a player you want in a starting eleven.
Merih Demiral (5.6m, Al Ahli) at 3.3 and Mohammed Mahzari (5.2m, Al Hilal) at 3.6 are the two defenders to downgrade — both are owned by roughly a quarter of the game and both are beaten on projection by cheaper options at their own clubs and elsewhere. Swapping Mahzari for Koulibaly keeps your Al Hilal clean-sheet exposure and adds 1.5 projected points at a lower price.
Before you commit any of these moves, check the RSL Fantasy predicted lineups — several of the sell candidates above are flagged on minutes rather than form, and a confirmed start would change the picture.
Gameweek 8 summary
Own Watkins and captain him. Take Milinkovic-Savic over the more expensive premium midfielders. Fill your defence with Gaston Álvarez and Seydouba Cisse rather than the 6.5m-plus template names, and put the money saved into a second Al Hilal asset for the three-week run. Sell the Al Ittihad block. If you want the full build, the optimal teams page solves it live against these exact projections, and every earlier round is archived in the RSL Fantasy preview hub.

FAQ
Who should I captain in RSL Fantasy Gameweek 8?
Ollie Watkins. He is the highest-projected player in the game for Gameweek 8 at 8.3 points, Al Hilal are 71.9% to beat an Al Ittihad side projected for just 0.97 expected goals, and unlike Cristiano Ronaldo (7.7) his projection does not drop in Gameweek 9. Ronaldo and Ivan Toney (7.4) are the alternatives if you do not own Watkins.
Which budget defenders are best for Gameweek 8?
Gaston Álvarez (5.0m, Al Qadasiya) at 5.6 projected points and 1.12 points per million is the best value defender in the game this week, and he is only 6.5% owned. Below 5.0m, Seydouba Cisse (4.5m, Al Kholood) projects 4.9 and Andrei Girotto (4.5m, Al-Faisaly) projects 4.6.
Should I sell Ivan Toney before Gameweek 8?
No. Toney projects 7.4 points at Al Fateh FC and holds up across the next three Gameweeks at 7.4, 5.6 and 6.6. He is owned by 53.5% of managers so he wins you nothing on your rivals, but selling him is a downgrade unless you are moving the money into Ollie Watkins.
Best differentials for RSL Fantasy Gameweek 8?
Roger Martinez (8.9m, Al Shabab) at 5.8 projected points and 3.1% ownership is the biggest ownership-to-output gap in the round. Behind him, Bento Krepski (5.5m, Al Nassr FC) is the top-projected goalkeeper at 5.5 with only 7.8% ownership, and Aschraf El Mahdioui (5.4m, Al-Taawoun) posts 5.2 at 2.4%.
Does every team play in RSL Fantasy Gameweek 8?
Yes. All 18 Saudi Pro League clubs have a fixture in Gameweek 8 — nine matches from Thursday 9 October to Saturday 11 October — so there are no blanks to plan around. The toughest assignments are Al Diriyah away at Al Nassr FC (4.5% win probability) and Al Ittihad away at Al Hilal (11.2%).
