Fantasy Voetball Gameweek 9: best buys and captains
Fantasy Voetball Gameweek 9 preview: best buys, captain picks and differentials
Fantasy Voetball Gameweek 9 runs from Friday 16 October to Sunday 18 October. Judge the transfer you make now on the next three Eredivisie rounds, not on this one alone. PSV still have the best run in the game by a distance. NEC, Heerenveen and Go Ahead Eagles carry the most interesting mid-price assets. AZ and Ajax are teams to sell into: both have a decent fixture this week and a harder run behind it. This preview covers who to buy, who to captain, the differentials worth a look and who to sell, all built on our model's latest projections. The full numbers are on the Fantasy Voetball player picks page, and last week's thinking is in our Fantasy Voetball Gameweek 8 preview.
Gameweek 9 programs: whose next three rounds are worth owning
PSV's [A]HAA → [H]FEY → [H]WII is the strongest three-round program in the Eredivisie at 8.86 expected goals, almost two goals clear of second-placed Feyenoord at 6.96. Plan around the Feyenoord home game in Gameweek 10 rather than avoid PSV for it: the other two fixtures are among the softest in the league. ADO Den Haag host PSV this week with a 9% win probability. PSV carry a 34% clean-sheet chance and 0.99 expected clean sheets over the three rounds, the most in the league.
Feyenoord ([A]TEL → [A]PSV → [H]SIT) are second on attack, but the trip to PSV in Gameweek 10 splits their run in two, so their players score high, low, high. NEC ([H]SIT → [H]GRO → [A]HEE) are third at 6.41, and the two home games come first. Twente ([H]UTR → [A]AZ → [A]EXC) have the best clean-sheet chance of the round at 37% against Utrecht. AZ ([A]CAM → [H]TWE → [A]AJX) and Ajax ([A]GRO → [A]SPA → [H]AZ) both get harder after this week. At the bottom are ADO Den Haag ([H]PSV → [H]HEE → [A]ZWO), Willem II ([A]SPA → [H]CAM → [A]PSV) and Fortuna Sittard ([A]NEC → [H]EXC → [A]FEY). All eighteen clubs play once in each of the next three Gameweeks, so the totals below compare like with like. Kick-off times are on the Fantasy Voetball schedule, and the bookmaker view is on the market probabilities page.
The table is sorted by 3-round xG. The 3-round CS column is the expected number of clean sheets across the three games, not a percentage.

Best goalkeepers for Gameweek 9
Marc-Andre ter Stegen (5.6m, AJX) is the best goalkeeper over the program with 12.3 over three Gameweeks. His line is a flat 3.9 → 4.2 → 4.2, so you can buy him and stop thinking about the position. Ajax's [A]GRO → [A]SPA → [H]AZ is not the strongest clean-sheet run, but 0.76 expected clean sheets is steady, and no goalkeeper projects more over the three rounds.
Matej Kovar (5.4m, PSV) is the clean-sheet pick. PSV's 34% chance at ADO Den Haag, then [H]FEY → [H]WII, gives him 3.9 → 3.6 → 4.3 and 11.8 over three Gameweeks, and at 6.2% ownership he is far less common than ter Stegen. The budget option is Kjetil Haug (4.5m, GAE): Go Ahead Eagles' [A]ZWO → [H]TEL → [A]CAM is worth 3.8 → 3.5 → 3.3 and 10.6 over three Gameweeks, the best return of any goalkeeper at 4.5m or less. Thijs Jansen (4.4m, CAM) is the differential route at 0.7% ownership. He projects only 2.8 as Cambuur host AZ, then rises to 3.8 and 3.9 for [A]WII → [H]GAE, so he is a Gameweek 10 buy rather than a Gameweek 9 one.
Best defenders for Gameweek 9
Sergino Dest (7.0m, PSV) is the top defender over the horizon at 13.1 for [A]HAA → [H]FEY → [H]WII, and Mauro Junior (7.0m, PSV) follows at 12.4. Both add attacking returns to the clean sheet: Dest projects 0.21 expected assists this week and Mauro Junior 0.16. Their lines (4.7 → 3.6 → 4.8 and 4.4 → 3.4 → 4.6) dip for the Feyenoord game and recover, which is exactly the shape you hold through. Givairo Read (6.8m, FEY) is the Feyenoord alternative at 11.3 for [A]TEL → [A]PSV → [H]SIT. His line is 4.4 → 1.9 → 5.0, so the PSV trip in Gameweek 10 costs you more than it costs the PSV full-backs.
Vasilios Zagaritis (5.5m, HEE) is the steadiest mid-price option. He is close to nailed at 87 projected minutes, and Heerenveen's [H]EXC → [A]HAA → [H]NEC gives him 4.5 → 4.0 → 3.1 and 11.6 over three rounds. Bart van Rooij (6.5m, TWE) is the Twente route into the round's best clean-sheet chance, 37% against Utrecht. Then come [A]AZ → [A]EXC, for 4.9 → 2.9 → 3.9 and 11.7 over three Gameweeks. Elijah Dijkstra (5.1m, AZ) is good value this week but the run is short. AZ's [A]CAM → [H]TWE → [A]AJX takes him 4.5 → 3.3 → 2.3, so he is a two-round pick, and Gameweek 11 at Ajax is the natural point to move him on.
For the budget slot, Tobias Storm (4.4m, NEC) is the best defender in the game per million over three rounds. He projects 10.1 for NEC's [H]SIT → [H]GRO → [A]HEE (4.0 → 3.6 → 2.5) on 87 projected minutes. Lushendry Martes (4.5m, SPA) has the best points per million of any defender this week at 1.07 (4.8 at 4.5m). But Sparta's [H]WII → [H]AJX → [A]GRO takes him 4.8 → 2.1 → 1.9, so treat him as a one-round rotation pick and sell him again after Gameweek 9.
This is where the round ranking and the program ranking disagree most. Siebe Horemans (4.9m, UTR) projects only 1.5 this week as Utrecht travel to Twente. Once [H]ZWO → [A]TEL arrive his line jumps to 4.8 and 3.2, and it stays at 3.4 and 4.5 in the two rounds after that. He is a buy for Gameweek 10, not this week: wait one round and the transfer lands on the good fixtures. At 0.8% ownership he is also a genuine differential. Arthur Zagre (4.8m, UTR) has the same shape for [A]TWE → [H]ZWO → [A]TEL at 1.6 → 4.1 → 2.8.
Best midfielders for Gameweek 9
Guus Til (11.8m, PSV) is the best player in the game over three rounds at 18.2 (6.4 → 5.2 → 6.6). PSV's [A]HAA → [H]FEY → [H]WII makes him the premium to own, and only 9.0% of managers have him. Anis Hadj Moussa (11.0m, FEY) is the highest-projected midfielder this week at 6.7, level with Til on 0.52 expected goals. But he falls to 4.0 at PSV before recovering against Sittard (6.7 → 4.0 → 6.7). Over three rounds Til is 0.8 ahead, so if you can only fund one of the two, Til is the hold. Hadj Moussa edges this week, and the two are within 0.1 of each other in Gameweek 11.
The best value in the position is Tjaronn Chery (7.9m, NEC): 15.9 over three Gameweeks for NEC's [H]SIT → [H]GRO → [A]HEE, with a front-loaded 6.0 → 5.5 → 4.4 line. That is the fourth-best three-round total in the game at 3.9m less than Til. His 0.27 expected assists this week add a second route to points, and he tops the Gameweek 10 projections. Jacob Trenskow (8.5m, HEE) is the mid-price alternative, nailed at 82 projected minutes. Heerenveen's [H]EXC → [A]HAA → [H]NEC is worth 6.0 → 5.0 → 4.5 and 15.5 in total. Noe Lebreton (6.8m, NEC) is the cheaper route into NEC's run at 5.2 → 4.8 → 3.8.
The hidden gem in midfield is Mathis Suray (6.9m, GAE). Go Ahead Eagles' [A]ZWO → [H]TEL → [A]CAM gives him 5.4 → 5.0 → 4.1 and 14.5 over three rounds, the sixth-best total in the game, at 81 projected minutes and 0.43 expected goals this week. Only 7.5% of managers own him, and he costs 1.6m less than Trenskow for one point less over the run.
For the budget slot, Daouda Weidmann (5.2m, TWE) is the pick. He projects 5.1 at home to Utrecht, the best points per million of any midfielder this week at 0.98, and 12.1 over three rounds for Twente's [H]UTR → [A]AZ → [A]EXC. Nolhan Courtens (4.5m, HEE) is next on that list at 0.91. His 4.1 → 2.7 → 2.4 line across Heerenveen's [H]EXC → [A]HAA → [H]NEC makes him a one-round pick for the Excelsior game.
The other differentials are rising lines rather than this week's numbers. Rafik el Arguioui (4.7m, CAM) projects 3.2 as Cambuur host AZ, but [A]WII → [H]GAE lifts him to 3.9 and 4.6. At 4.7m, his 11.7 over three rounds is the best three-round return per million of any midfielder. Patrick Brouwer (6.0m, TEL) has the same shape: 3.1 against Feyenoord, then 4.6 and 4.9 as Telstar's [H]FEY → [A]GAE → [H]UTR opens up, and 5.6 in Gameweek 13. Both are Gameweek 10 buys rather than Gameweek 9 ones. Mohammed Ihattaren (7.6m, SIT) is the single-round spike. Fortuna Sittard's [A]NEC → [H]EXC → [A]FEY gives 4.1 → 5.3 → 2.9, and that 5.3 is the second-highest projection of anyone in Gameweek 10. Buy him for that game only if you have a spare transfer, and sell him again before Feyenoord away. Check minutes on the Fantasy Voetball predicted lineups before you commit.
Best forwards for Gameweek 9
Wout Weghorst (8.5m, TWE) is the top forward and has the highest projection in the game this week at 7.2. Twente's [H]UTR → [A]AZ → [A]EXC gives 7.2 → 3.9 → 5.0 and 16.1 over three Gameweeks. His 0.87 expected goals against Utrecht are the most of any player. The AZ game is the soft spot and the other two fixtures carry it. At 8.5m he is 3.3m cheaper than Til for 2.1 fewer points over the run.
Dylan Vente (6.8m, HEE) is the value forward: 4.5 → 3.7 → 3.7 for Heerenveen's [H]EXC → [A]HAA → [H]NEC, nailed at 82 projected minutes, and owned by only 5.6%. Koen Kostons (6.9m, ZWO) is the slow-burner at a similar price. PEC Zwolle's [H]GAE → [A]UTR → [H]HAA takes him 3.4 → 2.7 → 4.6, and the ADO Den Haag home game in Gameweek 11 is his best fixture of the three. Thom van Bergen (8.0m, GRO) has a similar shape, 4.0 → 3.6 → 5.2 for Groningen's [H]AJX → [A]NEC → [H]SPA. If you already own him (37.0% do), keep him. Milan Zonneveld (6.2m, SPA) projects 5.5 at home to Willem II, with 0.67 expected goals. Sparta then face Ajax and Groningen and he falls to 2.6 and 2.1, so he is a one-round pick to sell again after Gameweek 9.
Gameweek 9 captain picks
Captain Wout Weghorst (8.5m, TWE). His 7.2 projection is the highest in the round, from Twente's home game against Utrecht with a 73% win probability ([H]UTR → [A]AZ → [A]EXC). The alternatives are Anis Hadj Moussa (11.0m, FEY) at 6.7 for [A]TEL → [A]PSV → [H]SIT and Guus Til (11.8m, PSV) at 6.4 for [A]HAA → [H]FEY → [H]WII.
Captaincy is a plan, not a pick. Gameweek 10 is the awkward week, because PSV and Feyenoord play each other. Chery (5.5), Ihattaren (5.3) and Til (5.2) have the top projections there, so an owned Chery is the natural armband. In Gameweek 11, Hadj Moussa (6.7) and Til (6.6) are the top two. Owning Weghorst plus Til or Chery covers all three armbands.
Best Suikeroom team for Gameweek 9
Suikeroom is Fantasy Voetball's one-Gameweek free hit with no budget limit, so the best Suikeroom team is simply the highest-projected legal XI, with no more than three players per club. For Gameweek 9 that is a 3-5-2 worth 62.1 before the armband:
- GK: Matej Kovar (PSV, 3.9)
- DEF: Bart van Rooij (TWE, 4.9), Lushendry Martes (SPA, 4.8), Sergino Dest (PSV, 4.7)
- MID: Anis Hadj Moussa (FEY, 6.7), Guus Til (PSV, 6.4), Tjaronn Chery (NEC, 6.0), Jacob Trenskow (HEE, 6.0), Ro-Zangelo Daal (AZ, 6.0)
- FWD: Wout Weghorst (TWE, 7.2, captain), Milan Zonneveld (SPA, 5.5)
All eighteen clubs play once this Gameweek and the top projection is 7.2, so this is not an obvious week to spend the chip. Rounds with a blank or a double are usually a better fit. The Fantasy Voetball optimal teams page solves the exact optimum live, bench included.
Who to sell before Gameweek 9
Toluwalase Arokodare (8.8m, AJX) is the sale that matters most, because 30.1% of managers own him. [A]GRO is a fair fixture and 3.8 is not a disaster, but he projects only 61 minutes. Ajax's [A]GRO → [A]SPA → [H]AZ then takes him to 2.6 and 2.3: 8.7 over three rounds, against Weghorst's 16.1 for 0.3m less. Why now: this week is his best of the three, so selling now costs the least.
Mexx Meerdink (9.1m, AZ) is the sell-into, and he is the most-owned player in this preview at 41.6%. Away at Cambuur is a good fixture, and 5.4 this week with 0.66 expected goals is a respectable return. But AZ then host Twente and travel to Ajax, and his line falls 5.4 → 3.9 → 3.0. Why now: if you are short of a transfer, keep him for Cambuur and sell before Gameweek 10 rather than carry him into the Twente and Ajax games. If you need the money this week, he is the forward to cash in. Ro-Zangelo Daal (7.4m, AZ) follows the same AZ curve at 6.0 → 4.3 → 2.8. Enjoy the Cambuur game and move him on before Ajax away in Gameweek 11.
Ricardo Pepi (11.5m, PSV) projects 0 this week. He is not expected back in time for ADO Den Haag, so PSV's best program in the league starts without him. His 3.8 and 5.0 in Gameweeks 10 and 11 make 8.8 over three rounds, against Weghorst's 16.1 at 3m less. Why now: he gives you nothing this round, and Til or the PSV full-backs get you PSV's run more cheaply. Sondre Ørjasæter (6.9m, TWE) belongs in the same group. He projects 34 minutes, and 2.5 → 2.0 → 2.4 for Twente's [H]UTR → [A]AZ → [A]EXC is 6.9 over three rounds, against Weidmann's 12.1 at 1.7m cheaper.
Marcos Leonardo (11.2m, AJX) is the last one to clear out. He projects 16 minutes against Groningen and 0.8 → 0.9 → 0.9 across Ajax's run, and nothing in the next six rounds lifts him above 1.3. Why now: no fixture is coming that changes this, and his 11.2m funds Weghorst with money left over.

Wout Weghorst is the top captain, with a 7.2-point projection at home to Utrecht, the highest in the game. Anis Hadj Moussa (6.7) and Guus Til (6.4) are the alternatives, and Til is also a top-two pick for Gameweek 11.
Which budget defenders are best for Fantasy Voetball Gameweek 9?
Tobias Storm (4.4m) is the best budget hold, with 10.1 over three rounds for NEC. Lushendry Martes (4.5m) has the best points per million this week at 4.8 projected, but his fixtures get harder after that. Siebe Horemans (4.9m) is the buy for Gameweek 10.
Should I sell Mexx Meerdink before Fantasy Voetball Gameweek 9?
